Velocity Veil

The "Velocity Veil" project was inspired by my previous work in tennis sportswear and my interest in exploring textures and color in knits. This time, I wanted to convey movement and speed, drawing from Bridget Riley's art and the energy of stadium architecture. Through various experiments and techniques, I created designs that combined structure, texture, and color in new and innovative ways.

I expanded my design approach by focusing on textures in knits and experimenting with color for the first time. Inspired by artists like Bridget Riley, I aimed to capture movement and speed in my designs.

Visits to stadiums influenced my mark-making techniques using acrylic structures and translucent binders to create dynamic patterns. I introduced 3D elements with ribbon and paper folding, adding depth and interest to my designs.

Advanced knitting techniques like racking, ripple, and stitch transfer helped create a variety of textures. I finalized a navy and white palette with pink accents after experimenting with shades inspired by stadiums, enhancing the collection’s visual appeal.

Structural elements and angular paneling were influenced by stadium designs and Clair Macready’s historical sportswear aesthetics. The project taught me to persevere through challenges and embrace risks, especially with color.

It strengthened my passion for texture, structure, and innovation, motivating me to push the boundaries of knitwear design further.
